FORMER DALLAS COWBOYS LINEBACKER EUGENE LOCKHART...SPIRIT OF GIVING

Eugene Lockhart
It's December people. Tis' the season to be jolly and giving. Although, many of us would love to believe that it's all about the gifts we received or even the family we will see. Perhaps you may be wondering what pie grandmother is going to bake this year?

Well, for some families these few questions are their least concern. Some people do not worry what type of chicken they will eat. Whether it is baked or fried, has the least value. Some people are more concerned with the question will I even get to eat? A kid is sitting inside the classroom wondering right now, am I going to get anything at all for Christmas? Mom is struggling and Daddy has more important things to do besides worry about me and what I need. Regardless of what you feel this is the reality for so many in our country. We are quick to run to Africa, Iraq, Haiti, and the list goes on, but what about our own?

I want to share a story with  you about two very successful people who continue to give back and understand that no matter how bless they are personally, giving back to those less fortunate becomes more of a priority when they look back at where they have come  to where they are now.

Former NFL Dallas Cowboy's linebacker Eugene Lockhart
for the Hands Up Community Connection and  Rev. T.L. Brown and the Ervay Cedar Baptist Church membership along with  Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway teamed up to give 1000 turkeys to families at Big T in Oak Cliff, Texas in an effort to help needy families in the community enjoy a memorable and complete Thanksgiving dinner with a turkey.  Radio One Dallas stations 97.9 The Beat and 94.5 K-Soul promoted and registered families throughout the week to take part in the giveaway.

I was able to catch up with Lockhart and he stated, "the most important part of me giving out 1000 turkeys in which one alone can feed 5 people, was when a lady grabbed my arm and she held on so tight, he said, she broke down in tears and said thank you, thank you, now I can eat."
Lockhart began to get somewhat emotional just thinking about the lady. He continued, "it wasn't about me. It was about the people that God wanted to bless. It reminded me of the story in the Bible when Jesus feed five thousand. The people I came in contact with showed me that a little bit can go a long way, and can change someones life on a grand scale. It's the small things that can make a big impact." My question to you he turned and said,"are you willing to be a blessing, as blessed as you are?"

His words made me think, we are blessed and some people do not have that. Be mindful people and if you would like to make a difference, begin to give back. You can start by calling Mrs. Parker and asking her if you could bring her something since you know she has not been feeling well. We are always aware of some things going on in some people live, but what do we do? We turn our heads and say I know her son is going by there. You know what? That is not always the case and if it is, do your part and learn to be there for people. Without seeking anything in return. I challenge each of you reading this to implement this change during this holiday season. Tell me how it works out and pay attention how one thought can brighten someones entire world. You don't have to have a millions of dollars to give, start with cleaning out your closet and give it to those that you know need it.  Christmas is more about Christ and about giving. So lend a hand!

Check out this exclusive video as  Caraway  publically thanks Lockhart for his hand in helping the community.
